Description

The STCW Proficiency in Maritime Security Awareness Webinar course is set up to offer crew on board merchant ships, who are not assigned security duties, with the essential awareness needed. This STCW training course ensures that delegates will leave with the knowledge, understanding and proficiency requirements that are set out in the STCW code. This is mandatory maritime security training that must be completed by all seafarers where the role requires them to comply with the ISPS code. The course is run online and can be accessed with a computer, tablet, or smartphone. The STCW certificate will be awarded following a short online exam.  

Delegates will receive a hyperlink to the online meeting via email.

Prerequisites

  1. Photographic ID (A Government issued, photographic proof of identity on the day of the course and this should take the form of either a valid Passport or a driving license or a valid discharge book).

Successful candidates will be awarded with the MCA approved STCW Proficiency in Maritime Security Awareness certificate, following a short online exam.

Special Requirements

This is a classroom-based course, delivered live over webinar platforms.  

Participants are advised to have stable Internet speeds of over 5 Mbps for the best user experience. Between 8 and 25Mbps (download), and 1.5 to 2 Mbps (upload) will be required for connection. To check your internet connection copy and paste this URL https://speed.measurementlab.net/#/ into your web browser such as google or internet explorer etc and click test.  

  

What is a good download speed?  

  • 1 Mbps+: General video streaming and viewing of standard web pages.  

  • 2 Mbps+: All the above plus watching Standard definition (SD) videos online seamlessly.  

  • 8 Mbps+: All the above plus Video streaming without any buffering.  

  • 15 Mbps+: All the above whilst streaming several videos.  

  • 25 Mbps+: All the above plus Stream Ultra HD video (UHD – 4k) should smoothly.  

  • 40 Mbps+: All the above plus Stream Live Ultra HD video (UHD – 4k) should smoothly.  

  

What is a good upload speed?  

  • 0.1 Mbps: Good enough for sending plain text emails.  

  • 0.4 Mbps: Online gaming should be work but may lag a little.  

  • 0.8 Mbps: Webcam video streams (e.g Facebook, WhatsApp, Skype) with a reasonable but sometimes broken quality.  

  • 2 Mbps: Smooth HD Webcam streaming for webinars.  

  • 10 Mbps:  Uploading approx 100MB of video should take approximately 2-3 minutes.  

   

We recommend using a desktop/laptop computer with a large enough screen to comfortably see the presentation and follow media materials.  

If a mobile/tablet device is used make sure to have both Zoom and Microsoft Teams applications installed. The device must have a functioning web-camera and microphone.

Your web-camera must always be switched on so the lecturer can visibly see you listening and understanding the course and that it is you sitting there. This also includes when taking the exam at the end of the course. Please note failure to keep your camera on always may mean you being removed from the course early and not receiving certificate.
