carry out task-specific risk assessments and select the safest access method;

inspect, don and maintain fall-arrest harnesses, twin-lanyard systems and inertia reels;

rig temporary lifelines, overside stages and personnel-hoist arrangements in line with LOLER/PUWER;

ascend fixed ladders, masts or accommodation ladders using backup devices;

execute rapid casualty retrievals with rescue kits, stretcher rigging and suspension-trauma mitigation.
Practical modules use shipboard mock-ups and confined-space towers to replicate real deck, mast and overside scenarios, while classroom sessions analyse recent fall-from-height incidents to embed a just-culture mindset.
