Stream Marine Training offers MCA approved STCW refresher courses which are held at our campus next to Glasgow Airport, our boat site in Greenock as well as some courses being offered over webinar. Please see below for detail of all the refresher training taught by our high-quality maritime training instructors.

STCW Refresher Course - 4 Course/Route 1 (PSTU + FPFFU + PSCRBU + AFFU)

STCW Refresher Training for seafarers covering Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting (FPFFU), Personal Survival Techniques (PSTU) and Advanced Fire Fighting Update (AFFU), located at Glasgow Airport, as well as Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boat (PSCRB) located ta Greenock. These refresher courses are only suitable for personnel who have been at sea within the last 5 years. Refresher Training for seafarers, per STCW, the update training covers Fire Fighting and Sea Survival (FPFF and PST) as well as Survival Craft Training (PSCRB) but is only suitable for personnel who have been at sea within the last 5 years. STCW Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats Update Route 1 (FRBU)

The STCW Updating Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats involves both theory development and practical experience, focusing on launching and recovery using single arm davits, search and rescue and casualty recovery at sea. This STCW course forms a vital part of training for those who must lead a fast rescue boat as well as any crew on a Merchant Navy vessel who are part of the FRB crew. FRBU Route 1 course is directed to seafarers with more experience, who have taken part in FRB drills within the last 5 years.

STCW Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats Update Route 2 (FRBU)

The FRBU is vital maritime training for any FRB crew on a Merchant Navy vessel. The STCW Updating Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats involves a blend of theory and practical experience. With a focus on launching and recovery using single arm davits, search and rescue and casualty recovery at sea as well as post capsize procedures.

STCW Medical Care on Board Ship Update (MCOBU)

The STCW Proficiency in Medical Care On-board Update course is taught as a blend of practical experience and theory development. It is a mandatory course, that must be sat every five years upon completion of your last MCOBU or MCOB course. On completion, students will have been refreshed with sufficient knowledge of medical stores and equipment on board.

Under A-V/1 of the STCW 2010 Manila Amendments, any person working on a commercial vessel is required to provide at least certificates of proficiency in basic sea survival and fire prevention every five years. Without the relevant STCW certificates you will be unable to continue to work at sea.

MCA approved STCW Refresher/Revalidation courses:

Please note these are new packages and therefore availability of these courses grouped in one are currently limited. However all STCW courses are bookable individually in consecutive dates.

With the Route 1 option you can re-validate all the on-site STCW 2010 training course in either 2 or 3 days duration. This package option does not include the STCW Update Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boat Update (FRBU) or other refresher courses such as STCW Medical Care on Board Ship Update (MCOBU).

Greenock Campus (River Clyde)

Webinar

Currently we are offering STCW Proficiency in Advanced Fire Fighting Updated (AFFU) over a live webinar and a classroom course where the refreshers are booked as a package. However, using webinars reduces the amount of time delegates need to spend at our training centre by a full day. The feedback we have received is that it significantly reduces accommodation and travel costs. This blended learning approach gives total flexibility for the trainees who can choose which days they want to visit the site for the practical exercises and when to take the theoretical content using the live webinars.

If you do wish to only revalidate your STCW Proficiency in Advanced Fire Fighting Updated (AFFU) with us in-person, please register your interest here for a classroom based AFFU Route 1 or Route 2.

Please be aware some of our STCW refresher courses may start or end at another of our locations and delegates must find their own mode of transport between Stream House and our boat site in Greenock. You will be emailed joining instructions for every course you book. Please ensure you check them for dates, times and the location of the course.
