The STCW Updated Proficiency in Advanced Fire Fighting course relates to Section A-VI/3 of the STCW Code (paragraph 50 that states that ‘Seafarers qualified in accordance with paragraph 4 in advanced fire fighting shall be required, every 5 years, to provide evidence of having maintained the required standard of competence, to undertake the tasks, duties and responsibilities listed in column 1 of Table A VI/3.’ 

  • Control fire fighting operations onboard ship 

  • Organise and control fire fighting parties 

  • Inspect and service fire detection and extinguishing systems and equipment 

  • Investigate and compile reports on incidents involving fire

Prerequisites

  1. Proof of completing the STCW Advanced Fire Fighting training course (STCW Reg VI/3 para 1 & Sec A-VI/3) or recognised equivalent pre 31 January 2000 (i.e. MNTB 4 Day Fire Fighting Course ).

  2. You must also complete/show evidence of the updating training in Proficiency in Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting as per MSN1865.

  3. Photographic ID (A Government issued, photographic proof of identity on the day of the course and this should take the form of either a valid Passport or a driving license or a valid discharge book).
