Today, 3rd September 2021 is Merchant Navy Memorial Day.
Our Stream Marine Careers cadets took part in a memorial service commemorating the men and women who have lost their lives during wartime in the Merchant Navy. Merchant Navy Memorial Day took place at the Cenotaph in George Square, followed by a reception in the City Chambers. The Rt Hon Lord Provost Councillor Philip Braat spoke about our cadets and the brilliant education they are receiving from the City of Glasgow College.
Merchant Navy Memorial Day remembers those who have served in both World Wars as well as other conflicts. The SMC cadets were joined by seafaring veterans and their families to lay poppy wreaths on the Cenotaph. This wonderful service is one of many which took place across the United Kingdom today, and we were very proud to be part of it.
