This training is intended to meet the requirements set out in The Merchant Shipping (Entry into Dangerous Spaces) Regulations 1988 (SI 1988 No. 1638) (the Regulations), IMO Resolution A.864 (20) Recommendations for entering enclosed spaces aboard ships (adopted on 27th November 1997) and the Code of Safe Working Practices for Merchant Seamen (COSWP).

Course Outcomes:

  • Recognise potential dangerous enclosed spaces aboard a vessel
  • Complete a typical enclosed space entry Permit to Work
  • Carry out the safe testing of an atmosphere prior to enclosed space entry using typical industry test equipment, including knowledge of it’s maintenance and testing/calibration requirements.
  • Carry out a safe enclosed space entry
  • Carry out a self rescue from an enclosed space

STCW 2010 BASIC Oil, Chemical and Liquified Gas Tanker Cargo Operations (BTCC)

STCW 2010 Basic Oil, Chemical and Liquified Gas Tanker Cargo Operations give seafarers the essential education and training in tanker cargo operations to meet the Knowledge, Understanding and Proficiency (KUP) requirements set out in the specific part of the following:

Table A-V/1-1-1 Table A-V/1-2-1

  • Function: Oil, chemical tanker and Liquefied gas tanker cargo operations
  • Competence: Contribute to the safe cargo operation of chemical Liquefied gas tankers
  • Take precautions to prevent hazards
  • Apply occupational health and safety precautions and measures
  • Carry out firefighting operations
  • Respond to emergencies
  • Take precautions to prevent pollution of the environment from the release of oil or chemicals and Liquefied gas tankers

Successful delegates will be awarded with an MCA approved STCW 2010 BASIC Training in Oil, Chemical and Liquified Gas Tanker Cargo after a short exam.

  1. Delegates must already hold an MCA approved certificate in Tanker Fire Fighting or (FPFF or AFF inclusive of Tanker firefighting component). 

  1. Photographic ID (A Government issued, photographic proof of identity on the day of the course and this should take the form of either a valid Passport or a driving license or a valid discharge book).

The STCW 2010 BASIC Training in Oil & Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations course is set up to offer seafarers the essential education and training in tanker cargo operations to meet the knowledge, understanding and proficiency (KUP) requirements set out in the specific part of the following: Table A-V/1-1-1.  

  • Relevant symbols according to the types of oil and chemicals carried on board oil and chemical tankers  

  • Relationship between pressure and temperature, including vapour pressure/temperature  

  • How an electrostatic charge may be generated  

  • Hazards associated with oil and chemical cargoes  

  • Inerting, drying agents and monitoring techniques  

  • Hazard controls  

  • Gas-measuring instruments  

  • Safety equipment and protective devices  

  • Safe working practices and procedures  

  • Effects of oil chemical and liquefied gas pollution on human and marine life.  

  • Loading, unloading, care in transit, tank cleaning, purging, gas-freeing and inerting cargo  

  • Operations  

  • Different oil and chemical tanker types, including their general arrangement and construction

  1. Please note for this course you must have a stable internet connection with a PC, laptop that has an active camera. SMT must be able to see you at all times in order for you to sit the course, take the examination and if successful receive your certificate through the post. 
  2. Participants are advised to have stable Internet speeds of over 5 Mbps for the best user experience.
  3. At least 330 kbps (send), and 245 kbps (receive) will be required for connection.
  4. We recommend using a desktop/laptop computer or a tablet with a large enough screen to comfortably see the presentation and follow media materials.
  5. If a mobile/tablet device is used make sure to have both Zoom and Microsoft Teams applications installed. The device must have a functioning web-camera and microphone.

STCW Passenger Safety, Cargo Safety & Hull Integrity Training For RO RO Passenger Ships (ROPAX)

The STCW Passenger Safety, Cargo Safety and Hull Integrity Training for RO RO Passenger Ships course is set up to offer masters, chief mates, chief engineer officers, second engineer officers and any other personnel who are responsible for embarking and disembarking passengers and for the safety of passengers in emergency situations. This course meets the requirements of CoP in Passenger Safety, Cargo Safety and Hull Integrity as laid down in Regulation V/2, paragraph 9 and section A-V/2 of paragraph 5 of the STCW Convention and Code as amended.

  • organise the safe movement of vehicles and passengers when embarking and disembarking 

  • control all elements of cargo safety and hull integrity 

  • monitor and control atmosphere in ro-ro cargo spaces 

  • organise shipboard emergency procedures 

  • optimise use of resources 

  • control response to emergencies 

  • control passengers and other personnel during emergency situations 

Outcome 1: The learner knows how to carry our safe loading and embarkation procedures.
Outcome 2: The learner understands the requirements for safe carriage of dangerous goods.
Outcome 3: The learner knows the requirements f or securing cargoes and knows how to use cargo-securing equipment and materials.
