What are BOSIET and MIST courses, and why are they important?

BOSIET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training) and MIST (Minimum Industry Safety Training) are essential offshore safety courses approved by OPITO. These programs are designed to prepare oil and gas personnel for offshore operations, with an emphasis on emergency response and workplace safety awareness.

What do BOSIET and MIST courses include?

Stream Marine Training provides hands-on, scenario-based instruction that includes:

BOSIET: Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET), sea survival, fire response, first aid, and Compressed Air Emergency Breathing Systems (CA-EBS)
MIST: Personal safety, risk assessments, hazard identification, and behavioural safety practices

Who should take BOSIET and MIST courses?

These are entry-level courses for offshore professionals. BOSIET is a required qualification for helicopter transfer to offshore platforms. MIST is a complementary course focused on promoting a safe work culture in hazardous offshore environments.

How long do the certifications last?

Both BOSIET and MIST certificates are valid for 4 years. After expiry, a refresher (such as FOET for BOSIET) will be required to maintain compliance.
