Working offshore is one of the most challenging yet rewarding jobs around. Whether you are in oil, gas or renewables, the environment demands skill, teamwork and above all, readiness. That is where OPITO FOET training comes in.

The Further Offshore Emergency Training (FOET) course is the refresher that keeps offshore workers certified, confident and compliant. At Stream Marine Training, we deliver FOET courses that combine realism with reassurance, ensuring every delegate leaves feeling sharp and prepared for whatever the North Sea or any sea might bring.

What Is OPITO FOET?

FOET stands for Further Offshore Emergency Training. It is a one-day refresher course designed for those who have already completed their OPITO BOSIET and need to renew their offshore survival certification.

The course focuses on maintaining and refreshing the critical skills every offshore worker must have, such as emergency response, firefighting, first aid, sea survival and helicopter safety. In short, it is your chance to prove that the skills you first learned are still second nature.

What You Will Learn on a FOET Course

FOET training is compact but comprehensive. Delegates revisit key BOSIET modules in a faster-paced, scenario-based environment.

1. Helicopter Safety and HUET Refresher

This includes the use of the Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS), brace positions, and underwater escape drills. Delegates re-enter the helicopter simulator to practice calm, controlled evacuation procedures in various water conditions.

2. Firefighting and Emergency Response

Using breathing apparatus, extinguishers and live-fire exercises, you will refresh your ability to control fires and respond effectively to onboard emergencies. SMT’s purpose-built fire ground creates a realistic but safe training space where delegates face smoke, heat and pressure under supervision.

3. Sea Survival and Lifeboat Procedures

This covers personal survival techniques, life raft drills and cold-water immersion responses. Delegates practise getting into the water, forming groups, boarding a life raft and staying visible to rescuers, all with guidance from our experienced instructors.

Why FOET Training Matters

The offshore environment changes constantly. Equipment evolves, procedures adapt and regulations update. A five-year gap between certifications can feel like a lifetime when safety standards advance every season.

FOET keeps your knowledge fresh and your reactions sharp. It is also a chance to remind yourself how it feels to act under pressure. The muscle memory, teamwork and confidence that come from refresher training are invaluable when faced with real emergencies.

For employers, it is a compliance requirement. For workers, it is a safety investment.

What Is New in 2025

The core structure of OPITO FOET remains the same, but in 2025 there is a growing emphasis on:

  • Crew communication and coordination: Practical teamwork is now a key focus, reflecting lessons from real offshore incidents.

  • Mental resilience: Recognising that emergency response also depends on mindset and calmness.

  • Efficiency: Centres like SMT are optimising course delivery to reduce downtime without compromising quality, offering shorter turnaround with the same high standards.

At Stream Marine Training, we are continually updating our delivery to reflect these priorities, ensuring delegates benefit from the most up-to-date training environment in the UK.
