This weekend at SMT saw a special visit from the Glasgow Sea Cadets. Normally based at City of Glasgow College and Clydebank, the Sea Cadets made their way to both Stream Marine’s Training facilities at Glasgow airport and Greenock. Making sure to follow all strict Covid guidelines, the day began with going down the Mass Evacuation Slide, and the Sea Cadets learning how to safely evacuate a ship. After this, the Sea Cadets enjoyed entering a survival raft and paddling it across our three-metre-deep pool. It was then time to safely jump into the water and keep afloat with the aid of life jackets. After lunch they then travelled across to the other side of Glasgow Airport, where they took part in fire drills, finding out how to safely put out a fire when on board a ship. Later, they headed down to SMT’s boat site in Greenock and went out on the Clyde in a Fast Rescue Boat. It was a busy day for the Sea Cadets, but they enjoyed taking part in the fun activities, learning from our expert instructors at our state-of-the-art facilities. The instructors at SMT were very impressed by the skills and knowledge of the Sea Cadets and we can’t wait to welcome them back again in the future.
