One of Stream Marine Careers managed Cadet’s was recently nominated for a prestigious award. Deck Cadet Gytis Kontrimas was nominated for the Bevis Minter award. Gytis is currently a phase three deck Cadet sponsored by Solstad Offshore and studying at The Scottish Maritime Academy in Peterhead.

Gytis was nominated for the award by his College, The Scottish Maritime Academy. Gytis was nominated for his determination and hard work he constantly puts in to his Cadetship to ensure he succeeds in his chosen career path. Gytis originally from Lithuania, started training at the Scottish Maritime Academy in 2019 on the Deck Hand Course before being accepted and starting his Deck Cadetship at the same campus in August 2020. Gytis is now approaching the end of his third phase and is looking forward to returning to sea in phase 4, he will be sailing in the North Sea onboard his sponsoring company, Solstad’s vessels.

Nautilus International sponsor the Bevis Minter award, and the award recognises tenacity and persistence through adversity. Gytis was shortlisted for the award by the judges and attended the UK Maritime Awards held at the Glasgow Science Centre on the 10th April. Unfortunately, Gytis did not win the award but was delighted to have been short listed and attend the prestigious event.

SMC are delighted that Gytis was short listed for this award and have no doubts he will go on to become an excellent Officer of the Watch when he completes his Cadetship with Solstad Offshore.
