Stream Marine Training (SMT), part of Stream Marine Technical, has been featured in Ship Management International following the appointment of Captain Oli Olsen to a new business development and alternative fuels advisory role.

The appointment reflects SMT’s continued focus on supporting shipowners, operators, and maritime stakeholders as the industry transitions toward alternative fuels and increasingly complex regulatory requirements.

Strengthening engagement with shipowners and operators

In his new role, Captain Olsen will focus on developing and strengthening SMT’s engagement with shipowners, operators, and industry stakeholders. This includes promoting SMT as a trusted training provider and technical consultant for organisations planning newbuilds or converting existing vessels to operate on alternative fuels.

His remit also covers the development of consultancy-led training packages designed to support safe, compliant, and practical operations in line with evolving international standards.

Extensive operational and regulatory experience

Captain Olsen brings extensive experience from both sea-going and shore-based roles. His career includes service at sea as an Able Seaman, Mate, and Master, alongside senior shore-based positions such as Marine Superintendent, Barge Master, and Offshore Installation Manager (OIM) on offshore oil rigs.

He has also held roles within maritime administrations, including the Faroese Maritime Authority and, most recently, the Bahamas Maritime Authority, giving him a strong regulatory perspective alongside his operational background.

This combination of operational, regulatory, and commercial experience positions him well to support SMT’s clients as they navigate new technologies, fuels, and compliance challenges.

Supporting modern training and future services

As part of his role, Captain Olsen will contribute to the development of modern training methodologies at SMT, including simulator-based learning, online platforms, and webinar-led instruction. He will also review emerging opportunities for new services driven by regulatory change and the industry’s transition to alternative fuels.

Commenting on the appointment, Martin White, CEO of Stream Marine Training, said:

“Captain Olsen brings a rare combination of deep seagoing experience, regulatory insight, and commercial understanding. As the maritime industry transitions toward alternative fuels and new technologies, his expertise will be instrumental in strengthening our training portfolio and positioning SMT as a trusted partner for shipowners and operators worldwide.”

Positioning SMT for the future of maritime training

The feature in Ship Management International highlights SMT’s growing role in supporting the maritime sector through change, with a focus on practical training, regulatory alignment, and consultancy-led solutions for alternative fuel operations.

With Captain Olsen’s appointment, SMT continues to strengthen its capability to support clients operating across traditional and emerging fuel pathways, ensuring crews and organisations are prepared for the future of maritime operations.
